Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has pledged to continue facilitating and executing people-oriented projects at the grassroots and enhancing the dignity and welfare of the traditional/chieftaincy institution.
Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Bashorun Muyiwa Oladipo gave the pledge today in Abeokuta while defending his ministry’s 2014 budget, revealing that the sum of N288 million would be expended by the Ministry next year.
According to him, N120m out of this amount was budgeted for the execution of capital projects, while the remaining N168m would go for the recurrent expenses which covered salaries and overheads.
He assured that the next fiscal year would see to improved capacity building of personnel of 20 Local Governments as well as those of official of the Ministry to ensure efficient and effective service delivery, adding that the Ministry would embark on effective monitoring of numerous projects embarked upon by the Local Governments Councils.
Also, justifying the next year’s budget of the Local Government Service Commission, the Chairman, Alhaji Olatunde Okewole noted that its budget stood at N132m, out of which N92m was earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while the balance of N40m was penciled down for capital projects.
Alhaji Okewole assured that the Commission would build and sustain a vibrant, disciplined and committed workforce that would ensure successful implementation of government programmes and projects at the grassroots.
He also said that the Commission would organize workshops and seminars for the different cadres of workers in the 20 Local Governments, explaining that about 150 officers would also be sponsored on different in-service training courses in the next fiscal year.
