A single, fixed term of office for the President of Nigeria of five years has been advocated for by the candidate for the presidency of the Labour Party, LP.
Obi stated that the plan was a part of his campaign during the electioneering period, and he added that he would have moved for the modification of the Constitution to allow the President to stay in office for a maximum of five years if he had been elected.
At the press conference, which took place on Monday in Abuja, he addressed the difficulties that have arisen as a result of the recent verdict of the Supreme Court, which confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the election that took place the year before.

“On the issue of a single term, we campaigned on the issue of restructuring and reform, and that would have included an amendment to make this Constitution a workable and functional Constitution that would be productive for Nigerians,” she said. “On the issue of a single term, we campaigned on the issue of restructuring and reform.” One of the issues that I would have mentioned in it would have been single tenure.
“I would vote in favour of a five-year tenure, which would go for thirty years rotational.”
