Peter Obi interview lacked fresh questions, says Aisha Yesufu

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has criticised the recent interview granted by the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing the question-and-answer session as repetitive and lacking fresh perspectives.

InfoStride News reported that Obi appeared on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics on Sunday, where he spoke on national issues and his presidential ambition.

The interview has since generated mixed reactions, with several clips circulating across social media platforms.

Reacting in a video posted on her X handle, Yesufu said she was disappointed by the interview, arguing that the questions asked by the programme’s host, Seun Akinbaloye, were not new and that Obi’s responses had largely been heard before.

According to the socio-political activist, the interview failed to provide new insights into the former Anambra State governor’s views.

“So Mr Peter Obi did an interview yesterday with Seun. I absolutely feel irritated by the whole thing,” she said.

“Usually when Peter Obi grants an interview, there is this excitement about what he is going to say.

“For this particular one, and maybe going forward, it is the feeling of irritation because what are we doing here? It is the same conversation every time. There is nothing he said that has not been talked about.”

Yesufu said she had expected the interview to raise new issues that could stimulate public discussion but found none.

“I would have picked one or two things from the interview so we could talk about them, but I have been going through it and I have not seen any new questions or questions that we don’t already know the answers to. We wasted our time,” she said.

She also questioned why, in her view, greater scrutiny was being placed on Obi than on President Bola Tinubu.

“Again and again, more pressure is being put on Peter Obi for him to be the one coming to talk to the people, but the former Lagos State governor, who rigged himself into the presidency, is not in front of the camera. He is not being judged. Can you ask questions about what we have not heard?” she added.
