Primate Elijah Ayodele has criticized the Federal Government for increasing electricity tariffs by over 300 per cent, stating that it will not lead to stable power supply as needed.
The government announced the increment, stating that Band A users will pay more for electricity.
Ayodele, who had predicted the increase last year, expressed disappointment, stating that the tariff hike will negatively affect many people in the country and will lead to disappointment in the government.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele emphasized the importance of stable electricity supply in improving the economy and supporting local manufacturers before increasing tariffs.
He stated, “Despite increasing electricity tariffs, it won’t guarantee 24/7 power supply in the country. It won’t make any difference because what is needed right now is anything that will improve the economy and make it better.”
Ayodele advised the government to focus on improving power supply by working on dams for stability, empowering states to transmit power, and addressing corruption in the power sector.
He urged the government to prioritize stable power supply before considering tariff increments.
