Prof. Chinedu Nebo, the Minister of Power has described Uche Chukwumerije, as one who tried his best at all times of his 75 years on earth, to stretch his talents to the full in order to achieve the greatest good for the greatest number of humanity.
“Not many had the privilege of being called at various times by his people to perform a special task and not all who had that privilege answered the call. But it is on record that each time Chukwumerije was called, he not only rose to the occasion, but gave his very best”, Prof. Nebo said.
“A man of inimitable reputation, great intellect, distinction and intimidating stature, his forthrightness and belief in doing good to all manner of men, saw him standing up against oppression, wherever it occurred and whenever he had to.”
Nebo also described Chukwumerije as “A Nigerian to the core, who believed that the nation’s greatness lay in its unity and indivisibility.” Nebo said Uche showed excellent leadership traits that manifested in championing the cause of his countrymen at the Senate, where he had his last stint before his call by God, his creator.”
“It was this rare leadership quality as the Chairman, Committee on Education at the Senate that led to the stability in the university system, especially in the area of instilling discipline in the admission of students.”
Prof. Nebo also said Uche Chukwumerije’s contribution as a member of the Senate Committee on Power, also helped immensely in advancing the progress that was made in the power sector towards achieving President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda in the sector.
“There is no doubt that Nigeria will miss this bold, brave, blunt, courageous distinguished and honest compatriot, who was ready to give his all to advance the cause of its greatness.”
Nebo surmised when he said, “No, doubt, history will be kind to this man, who trusted in the eternal words of William Shakespeare that “the purest treasures mortal times afford is a spotless reputation.”
