A member of the House of Representatives, Amos Magaji, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced Magaji’s defection in a letter read on the floor of the lower legislative chamber on Tuesday.
Magaji, who represents the Zangon Kataf/Jaba federal constituency in Kaduna State, cited the ongoing crisis within the PDP as the reason for his exit, stating that it had made it “impossible” for him to remain in the party.

However, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda rejected the defection, insisting there was no crisis in the PDP.
He urged Speaker Abbas to declare Magaji’s seat vacant, referencing Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution, which outlines conditions under which a lawmaker may lose their seat.
In response, Abbas advised Chinda to submit a formal request on the matter.
Magaji’s defection is part of a growing trend of lawmakers switching to the APC. Recent defectors include Chris Nkwonta of the PDP, who joined the APC on October 2, Sulaiman Abubakar on October 30, and five others—four from the Labour Party and one from the PDP—who moved to the APC on December 5.
