Residents of Unguwar Yargaladima in Zamfara State have rejected claims by the state police command that the recent explosions along the Gusau-Dansadau Road were orchestrated by Lakurawa terrorists.
According to the residents, the explosives, which detonated in two separate locations, were planted by local bandits operating within the area.
Speaking to journalists in Gusau, a resident, Mallam Ibrahim Usman, attributed the attack to a notorious bandit kingpin, Dogo Gide, and his gang. He accused the police of withholding the truth about the incident.
“This attack has nothing to do with Lakurawa terrorists,” Usman asserted.
“It was planned by Dogo Gide’s gang. They have been targeting our community as revenge for the recent killing of a bandit leader, Sani Black, by villagers.”
Usman explained that the explosives were strategically placed after the bandits learned that security personnel were en route to the area.
He further clarified the distinction between the Lakurawa terrorists and local Fulani bandits. According to him, the Lakurawa group consists of foreign mercenaries from Niger and Mali, while the local bandits, led by Dogo Gide, are remnants of the late Buharin Daji’s group.
“These are locals, unlike the Lakurawa group mentioned by the police,” Usman stated, insisting that the attack was a retaliation planned by Dogo Gide’s gang.
Residents called for increased transparency from security agencies and urged the government to intensify efforts to combat banditry and protect vulnerable communities in the state.
