Rivers State Government has called on residents of the State to be on red alert over possible outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in the State.
The State Chief Executive Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, who spoke through his Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tamunoiyoriari Parker made this call shortly after a thanksgiving service held at Assemblies of God Church in Mile 3 area of Port Harcourt the State capital.
He said the call became imperative following the Ebola outbreak ravaging some parts of the World. While urging Nigerians to be vigilant in dealing with their relatives residing in Liberia and Sierra Leone planning to come back during the festive period who might look healthy but may have been infected with the virus.
While noting that the aim of the thanksgiving was to thank God over the containment of the Ebola Virus Disease, urged residents not to discriminate and stigmatize any person that has been treated and discharged.
He declared Assemblies of God Church, 92 Ojoto Street Ebola free since it has been decontaminated after a suspected Ebola contact visited the church.
Earlier in an address, Pastor Chimeze Harold Njoku, sector secretary of Diobu 3 section of Ikwerre District Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria had informed the Governor about the plethora of hardship suffered by the church, which includes social stigmatization, psychological trauma, physiological problems, economic loss, restriction of movements and denting of the church image through negative publicity.
