The steering committee of the ‘Safe Schools Initiative’ held its inaugural meeting today in Abuja.
Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who disclosed government’s resolve at the inaugural meeting of the Committee on Safe School Initiative said the think-tank was put in place following the security challenges presently confronting the country.
The minister said when fully operational, the Safe Schools Initiative would instill more confidence in parents and erase fears by school children to go to school.
Okonjo-Iweala, who stated that the initiative predated the kidnap of over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno State, pointed out, however, that the incident crystallised the urgency to act.
