Security has been enhanced in the New Year for safety, free movement and to allow those on recreation to enjoy themselves at the Parks and Gardens in Abuja.
At the MagicLand and Amusement Park, formerly known as Wonderland located at the central area, vehicles and people were on strict security checks before people were allowed into the park.
At the Millenium Park, Mrs Chinwe Odogwu, said that the management of the garden had put different security measures in place because of the human traffic expected at the park during the New Year celebration.
Odogwu, a staff of the park told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that lives of customers were important to the organisation.
“This season, we have received more customers than before and we ensured that our park is relaxed enough for people to enjoy themselves.”
“All our security men are on ground working, likewise the police came to join hands due to this security strength, nobody has complained of theft or felt bad with our services,” she said.
She said that one of the measures put in place were CCTV cameras placed in strategic locations around the park.
“Also we decorated the park properly; we ensure that people were not seated close to where vehicles were parked,” she said.
Mr Bolajoko Adeleganu, the Manager of Galadimawa Open Round Park, said that the park did not open in the night due to insecurity.
“This morning, we opened the garden for people who want to come and celebrate the New Year here.
“We make sure that people were checked and people selling at the garden were told to report any suspicious movements,” he said.
Mr Vincent Joseph, the Manager of Opic Event Centre at Lokogoma said that the garden was open to all “but we ensure the tight security is not jeopardised”.
