Senator David Jimkuta, representing Taraba South senatorial district, has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on security in the Takum and Ussa local government councils of Taraba State.
He believes that such a declaration would help address the ongoing reckless killings in these areas.
Speaking in Wukari council on Tuesday while interacting with journalists, Senator Jimkuta, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Social Warfare and Poverty Alleviation, emphasized the urgent need for action to enable farmers to return to their farmlands and rebuild their lives amidst the threat to the region’s food security.

Senator Jimkuta disclosed that over 700 persons have been killed in the two local councils within three months, expressing concern that if the situation is not addressed promptly, it could spread to other parts of the state.
He lamented the impact of banditry activities, which have disrupted the lives of over 50 villages in Ussa and Takum.
Urging security agencies to take decisive action, Senator Jimkuta called for collaboration with local communities to track down the perpetrators of banditry and kidnapping in the region.
He stated, “We know where they are; let’s flush them out.
These areas are major food producers, and with people displaced and unable to access their villages, we are facing a looming food crisis.”
Residents of the two councils continue to live in fear due to the relentless killings carried out by bandits, as reported by InfoStride News.
