The Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) and Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed his condolences to the governments and people of Oyo State, Anambra State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the tragic stampedes at food palliative distribution venues in these areas, which claimed approximately 65 lives and left many injured.
In sympathy messages addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Abiodun described the loss of lives as heartbreaking, particularly as the victims were seeking necessities for survival.
He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, alongside other levels of government, is working diligently to alleviate the economic hardships faced by Nigerians and improve living standards.

To prevent similar incidents, Abiodun called on Nigerians to remain cautious and adhere to safety protocols during palliative distribution events.
Tragic Timing
“Deaths such as these diminish us as a people,” Abiodun stated. “These disasters occurred at a time when families around the world are in a festive and joyous mood. It is indeed tragic.”
He added: “I, on behalf of my family and the good people of Ogun State, commiserate with my brother governors, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Charles Soludo of Anambra State, and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the families of the victims, and all Nigerians on these unfortunate incidents.”
Prayers for the Departed
The governor concluded his message with a prayer for the repose of the victims’ souls: “May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
