Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has called on the northern region not to abandon President Bola Tinubu’s administration, urging them to support ongoing reforms despite growing opposition to the government’s policies.
Sani’s appeal comes amid criticism of Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills currently before the National Assembly.
Some groups have alleged that the bills disproportionately target the North, while others argue that they could exacerbate the economic burden on Nigerians.

In a video sighted by Journalists, Sani emphasized that the North must take responsibility for its role in bringing Tinubu into office and avoid leaving the government in the hands of those who did not vote for it.
He said, “If I’m not mistaken, this is a government the North brought into office.
So why should you antagonize a baby that you delivered? You should not leave this government to others who did not vote for it. It’s you that used your tongue and brought them to office.”
Highlighting the region’s vast resources and potential, Sani stressed the need for self-sufficiency.
“There’s no part of the country that’s so blessed like the northern part of the country. We cover about 65% of the total landmass in Nigeria.
Out of the nation’s 235 rivers, almost 70 percent are located in the northern part of Nigeria. We are sleeping on a gold mine,” he stated.
Sani further urged the North to engage the Tinubu administration on development-oriented demands, pointing out the numerous key positions already occupied by northerners, including Ministers of Defence, Agriculture, Education, and the National Security Advisor.
The Tax Reform Bills introduced by the Tinubu administration have faced nationwide scrutiny, with critics arguing they could stifle economic growth.
However, Sani maintained that northerners should remain supportive of the government and actively engage in its positive reforms.
