    Shettima Dissolves Cabinet

Kashim-ShettimaGovernor Kashim Shettima of Borno State yesterday announced the total dissolution of his cabinet for the first time since he was elected in 2011.

This came at a time some of Shettima’s political appointees were tendering their resignations amidst the power-play between the governor and his estranged godfather, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

Sheriff, who single-handedly made Shettima his successor, has since dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The news about the cabinet dissolution had triggered jubilation in Maiduguri, the state capital, as many politicians believed the governor was working with a team that was more of a liability to him than asset.

An APC chieftain, who spoke off the record, said “We believe the next cabinet would be constituted in such a manner that it would right the governor’s act towards a successful 2015 re-election”.

According to the statement issued and signed by the Secretary to the state government, Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda, the governor had approved the immediate dissolution with effect from Friday 8th August.

The statement reads “The executive Governor of Borno State, Hon. Kashim Shettima, has approved the immediate dissolution of the state executive council comprising all commissioners”.
