The Sokoto State Government has shut down the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state capital over a disagreement concerning the ownership of the property.
The closure reportedly followed a dispute between the state government and the party over the premises being used as its state secretariat.

The development has raised concerns among ADC members, who may be unable to access the office and carry out their regular party activities following the government’s action.
The dispute comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties making efforts to strengthen their structures across the country.
The ADC has been expanding its political presence and attracting prominent politicians seeking an alternative platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming elections.
The closure of its Sokoto office is therefore likely to generate further political reactions, particularly over the circumstances surrounding the ownership of the property.
However, the details of the ownership dispute, including the claims made by both parties and the legal basis for the government’s action, remain central to resolving the disagreement.
The development also places attention on the need for due process in settling property disputes involving political organisations and public authorities.
