Second Republic Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign, likening it to that of his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.
The Presidency had insisted that Buhari would not extend his probe beyond the Jonathan administration.
But in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, Musa stated that similar to the administration of Jonathan, Buhari did not provide a level playing field for public office holders of the ruling and opposition parties to govern responsibly.
He said, “The anti-corruption war which we are feeling under the new president is not significantly different from the one we experienced under the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan. It is more of a name than a reality.
“Buhari inherited a corrupt administration from Jonathan just as Jonathan inherited his from Umaru Yar’Adua who ruled before him. Yar’Adua inherited his from Olusegun Obasanjo, who inherited his from Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, and so on”.
The elder statesman pointed out that the country has been bogged down with corruption since 1966, which, according to him, has led to stealing of resources and crippled government from performing its functions.
“In other words, for us to deal with this large-scale corruption, we have to probe from 1966 when it all started. Buhari must probe everyone and everything. This level of corruption can become disabling for government. It is what has brought about the level of insecurity we see in the country today.”
The ex-governor also agreed with Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, that the anti-corruption war of the Buhari administration was selective and targeted only members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Musa said by probing suspected corrupt persons in the All Progressives Congress, Buhari would have fulfilled his promise of waging a holistic war against corruption.
He said, “If (Fayose) makes that allegation, then it means the allegation is credible. The President himself has said he will probe only Jonathan’s administration. So, it means in reality it is only PDP members he will probe. He did not say he would probe previous administrations, including his initial one. He is going to probe only PDP under Jonathan”.
