The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that the former Enugu state Governor, Sullivan Chime is still under investigation.
The anti-graft agency is looking into allegations connecting Chime with an alleged N23bn fraud involving the former minister of petroleum, Dieziani Alison-Madueke.
Reports say various allegations of misappropriation of funds levelled against him while he was Governor from 2007 to 2015 is also being investigated.
Speaking to newsmen on Chime’s case, on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, the EFCC’s South-East operations head, Johnson Babalola said the anti-graft agency has not been compromised in any way.
He said “Chime is still under investigation, criminal cases don’t have expiry date.
“The case is still not closed.
“Rita has the right to allege that we have compromised – we are operating democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of expression.
“But I want to tell you that she too is still under investigation and I don’t want to say more than that about the case.
“She is still under investigation and we are making progress.”
On the allegations of fraud levelled against the EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, Babalola said “He (Magu) is innocent, he is a very clean man, the DSS is wrong.
“The main thing in Nigeria is corruption and insecurity, the powers that be are against my oga.
“He has no skeleton in his cupboard and they cannot stop him from carrying out investigation.”
Sullivan Chime recently decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
There are insinuations in some quarters that any politician being probed by the EFCC is let off the hook when he moves to the ruling party.
