The Nigerian military operations geared towards tracking the insurgents who carried out the recent pre-dawn attacks on the Mohammed Kur Barracks in Bama on Friday December 21, 2013 has led to the destruction of over twenty vehicles said to be conveying escaping terrorists.
According to reports on the activities, the vehicles which were used during the attack on the barracks were sited through air surveillance when the terrorists were making efforts to cross the borders back to their haven in Cameroun.
A release by the Director of Defence Information in the Ministry, Chris Olukolade (Major General) has indicated that although a good number of the insurgents had escaped with bullet wounds and some have been arrested, over fifty of them have died through exchange of fire with ground troops in the bid to apprehend the fleeing terrorists during the operations.
Chris Olukolade said that the military lost fifteen soldiers mostly from the attack and some died during the pursuit. Adding, a total of five civilians occasioned death during the attack.
“Intensive cordon and search operations are still ongoing to fish out the insurgents who might be lurking around communities in the area. Families affected by the attacks have been relocated to other military locations,” he noted.
