Newly appointed Special Advisers in Bayelsa State have been urged to work assiduously in fine-tuning the economic policies and programmes of the State with a view to translating existing business opportunities into real prosperity for the people.
Governor Seriake Dickson gave the charge while swearing in his Chief Economic Adviser, Mr. Solomon Apreala and the Special Adviser on Investment, Mr. Cyril Akika at Government House, Yenagoa.
Chief Dickson, who restated his administration’s commitment towards diversifying the Bayelsa economy, said Government would not relent in its efforts at attracting serious-minded investors to the State.
According to the Governor, the business promotion initiatives of the present administration have started yielding results as several investors within and outside the country have indicated genuine interest to invest in the State.
“As you all know, you are joining Government at a time when our investment and economic promotion policies are fairly known. We are serious about turning this place around as a foremost investment destination for our country.
You are all aware of the several high profile visitors and business people and leaders that this State has attracted within this short period.
Bayelsa is now better known outside this country than some sovereign nations”
Describing their responsibility as challenging, Governor Dickson urged the Special Advisers to see their appointment as a call to duty and work closely with other relevant agencies to ensure the realization of the economic policies as spelt out in the restoration agenda.
“I don’t know of any other responsibility that any person have in this Government that will be more challenging than the responsibilities that you are now taking on. So, while I congratulate you, I also expect you to fine-tune our economic policies or policy on investment promotion for the benefit of our people.”
Governor Dickson also used the occasion to inaugurate Messrs Ebiwari Wariowei and Kofi Odiowei as his special representatives for Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Areas of the State.
According to the Governor, the duo was appointed as replacement for their predecessors who have been elevated to higher political offices.
He charged them to show total commitment to the ideals of the restoration government and work cooperatively with the chairmen of their respective local government areas and other stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in explaining Government’s policies and programmes to the people at the grassroots.
He also urged them to reside in their various localities with a view to relating well with the people and give regular feedback to Government.
In his response, the Chief Economic Adviser Hon. Solomon Apreala expressed gratitude to the Governor for their appointment and promised to work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in them.
