The Senior Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Foreign Relations, Mr Oma Djeba has explained why Governor Uduaghan is irrevocably committed to championing agricultural green revolution in the State.
He said, Dr. Uduaghan believes that the environment is the most topical issue today that determines every sector of human existence and as such should be given utmost attention.
Mr. Djeba who spoke on the love of Governor Uduaghan for the environment said, the environment will determine our economy, our healthcare and our business sustainability.
He said, Gov Uduaghan’s consciousness of global climate changes and the harsh degrading environment, occasioned by crude oil exploration and exploitation, coupled with the knowledge that the oil will not be available forever, informed his initiative of a developmental programme to tackle the State’s environmental degradation and create an alternative source of revenue generation for the State.
He recalled that, very early in his administration, the Governor called for an increased level of awareness on the environment by residents of the State, adding that, the State Government is presently developing on programmes that will reduce the vulnerability of her local communities to the impact of climate change and adverse effect of crude oil exploration.
The programme, which he said is technically supported by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP will produce an Integrated Territorial Climate Plan (ITCP) to execute extensive mitigation and adaptation projects in order to confront the challenges of climate change in the State.
This, he said, is in addition to laying the foundation for the development of a low emission economy and climate resilient local economic development within the State and ensure sustainable energy, food security, robust infrastructural services and the creation of clean air, jobs and economic opportunities.
