The Zamfara State Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has called for collaboration with the State Fire Service to enhance the efficiency of rescue operations, particularly during road crashes involving fire outbreaks.
The appeal was made by the state FRSC Sector Commandant, Umar Massaudu, during a courtesy visit to the Director of the Zamfara State Fire Service Board, Abdullahi Jibbo, in Gusau, the state capital.
Commandant Massaudu highlighted the need for joint efforts between the FRSC and the State Fire Service, particularly in the areas of training and retraining FRSC personnel on firefighting techniques.
He emphasised that during road crashes, fires often occur, leaving FRSC personnel unprepared to manage the situation due to a lack of firefighting skills and tools.
“Road accidents sometimes involve fire outbreaks, and our personnel are often helpless because they lack the skills to handle firefighting equipment,” Massaudu stated.
He further requested that the State Fire Service assist the FRSC with fire extinguishers and other firefighting tools to help manage such incidents more effectively.
The FRSC also sought the support of the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, in public enlightenment campaigns aimed at educating road users on safety measures.
Massaudu appealed to the Emir to encourage drivers and the general public to prioritise road safety.
“We are appealing to you to talk to road users and the general public to always be safety-conscious on the roads,” Massaudu said.
In response, Director Abdullahi Jibbo of the Zamfara State Fire Service assured the FRSC of full cooperation and support.
He affirmed the readiness of the Fire Service to provide the necessary firefighting tools and training to FRSC personnel to ensure more effective response during accidents.
“We are very ready to provide you with the necessary fire-preventive tools and mechanisms,” Jibbo said.
“When FRSC personnel can effectively fight fires during accidents, more lives and property will be saved.”
The collaboration between the FRSC and the Zamfara State Fire Service is expected to significantly improve the emergency response capabilities of both agencies, particularly in handling fire-related accidents on the state’s roads.
