The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a suspected car thief while attempting to sell a stolen vehicle in Gusau, the state capital.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, ASCII Umar Mohammad M., it was disclosed that the arrest followed a report filed by Mr. Alkasim Muhammad Kabir, a Kano State resident, on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
Kabir reported the theft of his Mercedes-Benz C300 with registration number DAL68HK Kano, along with two phones, a Samsung Galaxy A55 5G and an iPhone 12.

“Tracking efforts revealed multiple locations the suspect passed through, including Dayi, Malumfashi, and Funtua, en route to Zamfara State from Kano State.
The tracker was later removed, rendering the vehicle temporarily untraceable,” the statement noted.
The Command’s intelligence team acted swiftly after receiving reports and a social media alert about the stolen car.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Dauda Ismail, a 30-year-old from Dala Local Government Area, Kano State, was apprehended on Sunday, December 15, 2024, along Sokoto Bypass Road in Gusau.
He was caught at a restaurant near Masjid Umar Bin Khattab (Masallacin Kanoma).
The suspect was found in possession of the stolen Mercedes-Benz C300, a Samsung Galaxy A55 5G phone, and $7,000 in cash suspected to be counterfeit.
Investigations revealed that Dauda absconded with the car while pretending to refill gas at a gas plant in Kano.
“He confessed to obtaining the items deceitfully and attempted to sell the car and phones but failed due to lack of transparency and proper documentation,” the statement added.
The suspect had already sold the stolen iPhone 12, which was tracked to Lokoja, Kogi State. Arrangements are ongoing to retrieve the phone as the buyer has agreed to return it to its rightful owner.
The NSCDC confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
The Command assured the public that updates on the case will be provided as new developments unfold.
