ABUJA (OAGF Press Report) –
The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris has tasked civil societies in Nigeria to partner with the administration of Present Muhammadu Buhari in its resolve to fight corruption at all levels of governance by reporting individuals and organizations engaging in corrupt practices.
Ahmed Idris made this call while receiving members of the Civil Society of Nigeria, an umbrella body representing over 25 civil societies in Nigeria, who were at the Treasury House to congratulate him on his appointment as the Accountant General of the Federation. He noted that as civil societies and not security agencies, they need to act as whistle blowers through reporting all forms of corrupt practices witnessed in the system. Adding, they should do this objectively without fear or favour.
“No society will develop if it indulges in any form of corruption. As a nation, if we do not imbibe the culture of good governance, transparency, accountability and strict compliance to the rules and regulations stipulated in the relevant documents guiding the nation, we cannot reach our destination,” he said.
“Nigerians have elected Mr. President based on his track record of zero tolerance for corruption and his unquestionable passion to make Nigeria better, but this he cannot do alone. He requires the support of all Nigerians, especially the civil societies.”
He assured that the nation’s treasury under his watch will be prudently and transparently managed to ensure that the change promised by President Buhari is positively reflected in the lives of Nigerians.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Civil Society of Nigeria, Femi Osabinu (Comrade) congratulated the new Accountant – General on his appointment, saying it is well deserved. He also pledged the support of the civil society to advancing the course of the administration.
