Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has increased the monthly allowance of operational staff of the Torrey Home for Handicapped Children in Kano metropolis, from N5, 000 to N10, 000 monthly. The increase, he said, is not to compensate them but to show appreciation for their diligence in taking care of the children who are mostly mentally challenged. He said that only God can reward them. Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, is currently mourning the loss of her mother. The deceased, Dr Marienne Abimbola Silva, who died peacefully on Sunday morning July 19th, was the third female doctor in Nigeria but the first Nigerian female to bag a medical degree. The icon, who died aged 89, was also bestowed with the honorable award of Officer of the Order of The Niger (OON). She’s survived by her children and grandchildren.
