Jalaludeen Zakari, a head teacher from Burra village in the Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexually assaulting one of his students.
The verdict was delivered by Justice Nana Fatimah Jibrin, the Presiding Judge of Bauchi State High Court No. 11.
Barrister Dayabu Ayuba, the Prosecuting Counsel, a State Counsel with the Ministry of Justice, revealed this in an interview with journalists in Bauchi on Saturday.
During the trial, Ayuba presented three witnesses, including the victim, who testified before the court.
According to him, the six-year-old girl was in the school for admission screening before she was assaulted by the convict, who held her for hours after official school hours.
Ayuba stated, “Although he did not use his manhood on the girl, he fingered her, and in legal terms, this is considered as rape.”
It can be recalled that a similar incident occurred in 2023, where a High Court Judge in Bauchi sentenced Yusuf Bako to life imprisonment for raping a girl inside a mosque.
In another case, two men were each handed 35 years imprisonment for culpable homicide and the removal of the private part of a teenage girl in Jama’are.
