BENIN (Nigerian Institution of Surveyors Report)
The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) has elected Bern Omo Akghigbe as its new President in the election conducted at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Benin, Edo State recently.
According to the report from the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation on Monday May 26, 2014, Bern Omo Akhigbe will be assisted by Oyebola Akinloye Olufemi (Surveyor) for the next two years. It continued that the Secretary-General is Olumide V. Adewebi (Surveyor) amongst others.
The report also indicated that the election came two years after the inauguration of Bode Adeaga, the immediate past President, describing Bern Omo Akghigbe as the 19th President which the NIS has produced.
“The NIS is a professional body which was established in 1934 as a Licensed Surveyors Association under the leadership of the late Nationalist – Herbert Macaulay in 1960. The current name NIS was adapted in 1966 with the late C.T. Olumide (Surveyor) as the first President,” the report said.
“The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors is the umbrella professional organization for all Surveyors in Nigeria in private practice, government and academia with a view to seeking the professional well-being of its members.”
