The Nigerian government has invited controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, for questioning regarding his comments on the activities of bandits in the country.
Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the invitation while addressing journalists at the State House in Abuja on Monday.
He emphasized that Gumi is not “above the law” and that the government has found it necessary to invite him for questioning.

Gumi had recently urged the government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to join him in negotiating with bandits.
He advised Tinubu not to repeat what he described as the mistake made by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who refused to engage in dialogue with bandits.
The cleric also asserted that terrorism in Nigeria is not funded by Nigerians but by the terrorists themselves, who engage in kidnapping for ransom.
