Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has granted authorization to area councils in the nation’s capital to demolish uncompleted structures.
The decision was announced during a town hall meeting with stakeholders in the Gwagwalada area council on Friday.
Wike emphasized that the demolition of uncompleted structures would aid in eliminating hideouts and safe havens used by criminals.
He urged the chairman of the council to present the necessary letter for approval by Monday (January 22, 2024), emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
During the meeting, Wike also highlighted recent efforts to combat rising insecurity in the FCT, noting that informants linked to kidnappers have been apprehended.
The minister’s directive comes in the wake of heightened tensions in an Abuja community following the killing of three out of ten abducted victims due to delays in paying a ransom of over N700 million.
The authorization to demolish uncompleted structures underscores the FCT administration’s commitment to addressing security challenges and ensuring the safety of residents in the nation’s capital.
