While briefing State House correspondents immediately after the Federal Executive Council Meeting, the Information of Minister, Mr. Labaran Maku told reporters that the Minister of Water Resources presented a memorandum to Council for ratification for the Revised Estimated Total Cost (RETC) for the construction of Kashimbilla/Gamovo Multipurpose Buffer Dam and Associated structures in Taraba State in the sum of N104,375,666,732.10 with a completion period of 24 months. The Minister added that the project will help to harness the tourism potentials of the Kashimbilla/Gamovo and other Dams to boost tourism in Nigeria.
Labaran Maku told reporters that the Minister of Works presented a memorandum to Council for the approval of the construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge at Onitsha/Asaba in Anambra/Delta States with the commencement of Early Works Phase II in the sum of N15,661,063,535.24 with a completion period of 6 months.
Maku also told reporters that Council commiserated with the President and Nigerians on the abduction of over 200 girls from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok by the Boko Haram. Also, Council commended the security agencies for the swift manner in which they identified and apprehended the suspected masterminds of the April, 14 Nyanya bomb blast and called on all Nigerians to reject the politicization of security issues in the country.
Maku told reporters that Council congratulated the President on the successful hosting of the World Economic Forum on Africa (WEFA) from 7th to 9th May, 2014. He further said that the President and the Vice President displayed uncommon patriotism by attending the event at a time when the Vice President was bereaved, adding that global leaders who attended the Forum expressed confidence in the President, his Administration and the country.
Council noted the ground breaking ceremony for the Maritime University and Ship/Dockyard facilities in Delta State.
