The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of over 250 individuals associated with drug abuse in Katsina State from January to date this year.
In 2023, the agency arrested 930 people aged between 15 and 63 years, and intercepted 567 kg of assorted drugs.
The State Commandant of the NDLEA, Alhaji Hassan Sani Abubakar, disclosed this during a Cultural and Moral Sensitisation programme for the Youth Council Against the Surge of Drugs and Cultism in the 11 LGAs of the Katsina Central Senatorial District.

He noted that out of those arrested, 856 have been rehabilitated, including 50 females.
Abubakar commended the initiative and collaboration of Senator Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’adua, who organized the programme.
The event was attended by 110 youths selected from the 11 LGAs of the Senatorial District and held at the Conference Hall of the State CSC.
A statement by the Senator’s Media Aide, Muhammad Lawal Gwanda, explained that the programme aimed to draw attention to the dangers of drug abuse and involve youths in the crusade against the scourge both socially and morally.
Represented by his Senior Aide, Alhaji Tanimu Garba Abdulkadir, Senator Yar’adua emphasized the necessity of the sensitisation programme due to the increasing consumption of drugs among youths.
He urged parents to monitor their children’s activities and peer groups, and involve them in daily business activities.
Senator Yar’adua reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the NDLEA and other related bodies in fighting drug abuse.
He encouraged participants to educate those who could not attend the programme.
Islamic scholars, including Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil K/Bai, Sheikh Muhammad Hadi Balarabe, and Sheikh Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Yammawa, presented lectures on moral and ethical issues related to drug abuse.
At the end of the programme, each of the 110 participants received N30,000 for transportation back home.
