The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Seme Border Command in Lagos, on Friday said it arrested 21 Nigerians and seized 426kg of narcotics in 2013.
.
The Commander, Mr Nicholas Ajaduruonye, said in Badagry, Lagos, that the seizures consisted 422.55kg of cannabis, 950g of meta amphetamine, 1.3kg of heroin and 1.2kg of cocaine.
.
“All the drugs were imported into the country; we did not have any case of drugs being exported out of the country,” he said.
.
Ajaduruonye confidently said that the arrested persons were 17 males and 4 females, adding that the command had so far convicted 12 of the 21 suspects.
.
According to him, the drugs are usually concealed in luggage compartments, bales of used clothes and hollow compartments in vehicles such as doors, dashboards and bumpers.
.
“Unlike in previous years when we made our seizures through intelligence gathering, surveillance or tipoff, we made these seizures through proper profiling.
.
“Because of arrests we have made in the past years, we have been able to identify how these drug couriers work.
.
“This has worked to our advantage,” Ajaduruonye said.
.
He advised Nigerians to desist from sale and use of hard drugs, warning that offenders would be caught and prosecuted by the agency.
