On Sunday, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced that, despite efforts from all three levels of government, Nigeria needs N21 trillion to effectively bridge the housing deficit.
This was announced by Shettima at Sokoto during the ground-breaking ceremony for the State government’s 500-unit housing development.
Despite Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s best efforts, the Vice President said that Nigeria’s housing shortage remained a major problem.

According to Shettima, “we will need N21 trillion to meet our housing needs in Nigeria.” This is a result of the country’s 28 million home shortfall.
The Governor’s action is laudable and should be followed by other state governments.
The governor has gotten off to a good start by finishing the highways and flyovers he inherited.
The Governor had previously stated that the housing estate was intended for government employees and would be sold to those individuals on an owner-occupancy basis once construction was complete.
“This is a project that was started by former Governor Aliyu Wamakko but was dropped by the previous administration,” Aliyu explained.
But we will see it through to the end so that our employees and the public can benefit.
Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari, and others attended the ceremony to celebrate the administration’s first 100 days in office.
