The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sanctioned 24 corps members serving in Sokoto State for offences ranging from absenteeism to outright abscondment.
The State Coordinator, Usman Yakubu Yaro, disclosed this during the passing-out ceremony of the 2025 Batch A, Stream I corps members in Sokoto.

According to him, eight corps members will repeat their service year, while 16 others have had their service extended due to various infractions committed during the exercise.
Yaro emphasised the scheme’s zero tolerance for indiscipline, warning that acts of truancy would not be condoned under any circumstances.
He, however, commended the majority of corps members for their contributions, noting that two outstanding individuals were honoured with the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Award for impactful community development efforts.
The award is named after the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar.
The coordinator also highlighted the challenges of securing white-collar jobs, urging outgoing corps members to remain good ambassadors of the scheme and to utilise the skills acquired during their service year.
Yaro praised the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for his continued support to the scheme, particularly in the payment of state allowances, as well as the Sultan for backing youth-focused initiatives.
He added that the deployment of corps members to rural communities helped bridge gaps in healthcare delivery and education, with many medical personnel and teachers contributing significantly.
The ceremony marked the successful completion of the service year, with a call on corps members to uphold the ideals of discipline, patriotism and national service.
