Politicians from the Okigwe Zone in Imo State have called on their counterparts from the Owerri Zone to support their bid for the governorship in the 2027 election.
This appeal was made during a meeting held at the residence of His Royal Majesty Eze Oliver Ohanweh in Isiala Mbano LGA, attended by notable figures including former governor Ikedi Ohakim and Senator Patrick Ndubueze.
The politicians argued that equity and fairness necessitate that the Okigwe Zone should produce the next governor of the state.

They pointed out that their tenure was cut short with the emergence of Rochas Okorocha from the Orlu Zone, which had already completed an eight-year tenure under Achike Udenwa’s administration.
Eze Ohanweh, the chief host, expressed gratitude for the massive support given to Governor Hope Uzodinma during the recent governorship election, noting that Okigwe Zone produced the largest number of votes for the governor after Orlu.
Eze emphasized the importance of the gathering in addressing recent communiques and comments from other zones that seemed to undermine the political relevance of Okigwe Zone.
The royal father expressed optimism that the meeting would address issues of concern and position the Okigwe Zone on an equal footing with other zones in the state.
Chief Tony Chukwu, a prominent political figure, highlighted the significance of the governorship and reminded the attendees that Governor Uzodinma could be instrumental in realizing their ambition for an Okigwe governor in 2027.
He urged the zone to avoid internal conflicts and present a united front.
Senator Patrick Ndubueze also appealed to the indigenes of Okigwe Zone to support the quest for an Imo governor from their extraction in the next election.
The highlight of the meeting was the official adoption and presentation of the zone’s position paper on the Imo State Charter of Equity to the Okigwe Global Elders Forum, led by members of the Okigwe Global League, including Chief Longers Anyanwu and Chief Emma Ibediro.
