The newly elected National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, met a former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in Okuku, on Sunday.
We gathered that Oyegun and Tinubu, who led chieftains of the party to Oyinlola’s ancestral home in Okuku, solicited the support of the former military administrator of Lagos State, saying they wanted him to be part of their new movement.
The Osun governorship election comes up on August 9, 2014.
Oyegun, who spoke first, said: “The APC knows that you are the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the face of the law. But we want you to be a part of our new movement”.
Speaking after Oyegun, Tinubu also acknowledged Oyegun’s leadership qualities.
In his response, Oyinlola thanked the leaders of the APC for their visit and acknowledgement, promising to make consultations with his followers over their meeting.
Oyinlola, who affirmed that he remained a Peoples Democratic Party member, said he would fight the case of his removal as National Secretary of the ruling party to a logical conclusion.
This is the second time chieftains of the APC are meeting with Oyinlola, after the Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who is seeking reelection, paid him a private visit at Easter, fuelling speculations that the PDP chieftain might defect soon.
