President Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s commitment to deepening democracy in Nigeria through adherence to the rule of law and the provision of good governance, justice, and fairness to all citizens.
He made this known while hosting a delegation from the United States Congress led by Senator Cory Booker at the State House in Abuja.
During the meeting, Tinubu emphasized the importance of defending democracy and ensuring that it translates into tangible benefits for the people, including quality healthcare, education, food security, shelter, and overall economic prosperity.

He highlighted Nigeria’s role as a necessary partner for democracy in Africa and beyond, citing the country’s status as the continent’s largest economy and largest democracy.
President Tinubu also underscored the need for the United States to evolve a more prudent and pragmatic partnership with Africa, calling for upscaling of critical development programs to strengthen ties with the continent.
He suggested the implementation of a “Marshall Plan for Africa” similar to the post-World War II plan for Europe, emphasizing the need for innovative approaches to address the continent’s challenges.
Tinubu urged the US Congressional delegation to consider how technology and de-risking finance could be used to help Africa maximize its mineral resources and advance its education system.
He stressed the importance of viewing Africa as a necessary partner for the sustenance of democracy and called for a collaborative effort to promote development and prosperity on the continent.
