Distinguished Senators have received the report of the Conference Committee on the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund Act Cap N288 LFN 2004 Amendment bill 2015. The report which was presented by Senator Wilson Ake was laid on the table and later adopted by the Senators.
The Senate also has received the report of the Conference Committee on the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Board Bill, 2015. The report which was presented by Senator Smart Adeyemi was laid and adopted by the Senators.
Two bills passed third reading on the floor of the Senate. The bills are the report of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development on the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science Amendment bill presented by Senator Emmanuel Bwacha and the report of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service on the Chartered Institute of Certified Secretaries and Reporters bill presented by Senator Aloysius Etok.
A bill for an Act to Establish the Environmental Managers Registration Council of Nigeria as a body corporate and to empower the Council inter Alia to determine persons, what standard of knowledge and skill to be attained by such persons presented by Senator Ita Enang passed second reading.
A bill for an Act to establish the Chartered Institute of Auctioneers of Nigeria to provide for the control of its membership and to promote the practice of Auctioneers in Nigeria presented by Senator Joshua Lidani also passed second reading.
David Mark promised passage of Petroleum Industry bill
The Senate President Senator David Mark has promised the passage of the Petroleum Industry bill before the end of the 7th National Assembly. In his welcome address to his ‘ bosses ‘ after the Yuletide, he assures that the Senate will consider the quick passage of all outstanding bills and assist to resolve all other pressing National issues.
Among issues to be considered before the end of the seventh Senate according to the Senate President are the Petroleum Industry bill, the phenomenal fall in the price of crude oil and its impact on the 2015 budget, consideration of the report of the conference of Speakers on the amendment of the Constitution.
Other issues to be resolved are the security challenges in the North East, welfare package for the families of deceased members of the armed forces who lost their lives as a result of the insurgency and transparence, fair and free election.
While promising a quick passage of the 2015 budget , David Mark urged politician to desist from provocative utterances as we approach the 2015 election.
Senate confirms Okwu as CBN Deputy Governor
The Senate yesterday at plenary considers the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions on the screening of Okwu Joseph Nnanna for appointment as a deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and approve the recommendation.
The Senate also received correspondence from the President and Commander in Chief, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the confirmation of the appointment of Abdullahi Shinkafi from Zamfara State as a member of the Federal Character Commission.
Three reports were either referred to the next legislative day or to relevant Committee for further legislative actions. They are the report of the joint Committee on Finance and National Planning, Economic Affairs and Poverty Alleviation on the 2012- 2017 Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper FSP.
The others are the report of the conference committee on the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund Act and the report of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development on the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science Amendment Bill, 2015.
