Hope for the release of detained Biafra nation agitator Nnamdi Kanu is on the horizon as South-East Senators are scheduled to hold a crucial meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, on Wednesday, July 3.
The delegation, led by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, aims to advocate for Kanu’s release and convey their plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the AGF.
Sources close to the Senators confirmed to media personnel that the meeting will take place at 10 am in the Conference Hall of the AGF at the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja.

This discussion follows an earlier request by about 50 House of Representatives members seeking clemency for Kanu.
Uchenna Awom, Special Assistant on media to Senator Abaribe, confirmed the new development to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.
On June 23, approximately 50 federal lawmakers, identifying themselves as “Concerned Federal Lawmakers for Peace and Security in the South East,” urged President Tinubu to order Kanu’s release.
They requested the AGF to invoke Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to terminate the criminal charges against Kanu and release him.
Additionally, Obi Aguocha, a House of Representatives member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and South Federal Constituency, sought support from former President Muhammadu Buhari for Kanu’s release.
Aguocha reportedly apologized on Kanu’s behalf and advocated for a political resolution to promote unity within the country.
InfoStride News was reliably informed that, apart from advocating for Kanu’s release, the Abaribe-led team will urge the Federal Government through the AGF to drop the terrorism charges against Kanu.
Senator Abaribe had previously stood surety for Kanu with a bond of N100 million when he was first arrested and charged with terrorism at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kanu, however, jumped bail and fled the country, citing a military invasion of his ancestral home in Abia State as the reason.
After an arrest warrant was issued, Kanu was intercepted in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria in 2021.
Since then, he has been remanded at the Department of State Services (DSS) custody under fresh terrorism charges.
Former Attorney General of the Federation Kanu Godwin Agabi and Senior Advocate of Nigeria Chief Mike Ozekhome have also appealed to the federal government to forgive Kanu and order his release from custody.
