An ex-candidate for the Enugu North Senatorial District, Hon. Chinedu Eya, has asked Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah to distribute political offices fairly across the state’s regions.
The media got the politician’s private letter to the Governor in which he offered the advise.
Eya, who praised the governor for appointing competent people to support him in moving the wheels of governance, cautioned that the allocation of power should be handled with care to avoid resentments and disaffection among followers.
In a message to Governor Mbah, he said, “While I like to commend you for your recent appointments of competent and intellectual mobile hands into your government, I admit that the zonal spread of the key positions should have been handled differently as no zone should be seen as having more appointees against another zone, as this would bring about disaffection and distrust to your government.”
“We have witnessed verbal warfare emerge among many folks in our dear zones, contesting their perceived lopsidedness in your recent approval of appointees, in the days after your recent appointments of Chief Staff, SPAs, SSAs, and SAs.
Following the release of the list, I have seen firsthand how some people who feel they helped immensely to your rise during the past election have been insulted and called names.
“I’m writing to make an impassioned appeal to Your Excellency, Sir. As we get ready to welcome new appointees into your government, I recommend that you distribute these positions evenly across the Local Government Areas (LGAs) and zones of Enugu State. This will ensure that every Tom, Dick, and Harry in the state feels like they belong somewhere.
While campaigning for the Senate seat for Enugu North, Eya emphasised his support for politics based on inclusion and fair representation.
He explained that this was why he was looking for a new venue “through which I will speak, defend, and advance the course of people of my Senatorial District, but without results.”
Please accept my warmest compliments and best wishes as we all anticipate a successful future for Enugu State under your leadership.
