    Sultan, Cardinal Onaiyekan Meet Over Peaceful 2015

    Onaiyekan-SultanAhead of the lifting of the embargo placed on political campaigns for the 2015 general elections, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, and Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, will this morning meet in Abuja to lead a comprehensive discourse towards responsible politics in the country.

    According to a statement personally signed by the Sultan in Kaduna, the event is aimed at ensuring credible and peaceful electioneering process in 2015.

    The discussions will hold under the auspices of Inter-faith Initiative for peace under the leadership of the Sultan and Cardinal Onaiyekan.

    The conference’s theme is ‘Interfaith Understanding and Cooperation for Responsible Politics’.

    According to the statement, “The conversation that it will generate is considered apt for setting the mood of the nation as we step into the threshold of another electioneering campaign.

    “His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan and I, as well as other members of the Interfaith Initiative for Peace, will be happy leading the conversation towards a better Nigeria”.

    Participants of the conference, which will end tomorrow, are drawn from religious groups, academia, civil society, media and other critical stakeholders.

    A communiqué is expected at the end of the conference, while a workable resolution will be adopted towards peaceful electioneering period ahead of the 2015 general elections.
