The U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, has expressed his country’s readiness to collaborate with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
Mr. Entwistle made this known in Jos during a courtesy visit to Plateau Governor, Jonah Jang in his office recently.
The American envoy said, the United States have a strong relationship with Nigeria, pointing out that Nigeria is her most important partner in Africa.
He emphasized that the American government will also partner with Nigeria on health and education sectors in order to promote development.
According to him, he had mapped out strategies towards a peace dialogue between the Fulani herdsmen and the farmers in the central zone of Nigeria to see the need for embracing one another. He added that the U.S is very much interested in the credible and non violent 2015 general election in Nigeria.
Mr. Entwistle, who was deployed to Nigeria five months ago promised to consolidate the relationship with Nigeria, adding that peace talks within the zone will be sustained.
Responding, Governor Jang while welcoming the U.S envoy also sought for cooperation and support of other developed countries to come to the aid of Nigeria to wipe out terrorism, particularly the Boko-Haram sect.
He said Nigeria will triumph over these calamities, stressing that despite the challenges, Nigeria is poised to practice the best democracy in Africa.
According to Jang, the crises that the country was passing through were part of stages of development pointing out that most of the developed countries equally passed through similar changes.
He blamed people for not telling the truth about the crises, saying that the attackers are not Fulanis, but mercenaries from neighboring countries.
He further expressed confidence in democratic processes, pointing out that the recent successful conduct of the local government elections was a clear indication of the preparedness for the 2015 general elections.
He further stressed that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and people should play the game according to the rules.
