The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says no deadline will be fixed for a nationwide enforcement of the new vehicle number plate and driver’s license.
The Corps Marshal and Chief executive of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi made this known on Monday, while addressing newsmen shortly after a strategic retreat for its Zonal Commanders, in Abuja.
“On the uniform licensing scheme, the Court of Appeal judgement, the scheme is on course but we are not setting any deadline date,” he said, adding that “its going to be a circle period, so once your drivers licence expires, you go back and renew your licence and also when your vehicle licence expires you go in the process you cut over to the new plate number.
“You are aware of the Court of Appeal judgment, but now if your license must expire before you renew, if you don’t renew we will arrest you,” he said.
A Federal High Court in Lagos had questioned the powers of the FRSC to fix a deadline for enforcement of the new scheme. An Abuja Federal High Court, in the same vein, declared that the FRSC has no powers to invalidate a driver’s or vehicle licence before its expiration.
