Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has described the Civil Service as the key to the growth and development of the society.
Dr. Uduaghan who stated this during the swearing in ceremony of twenty-five Permanent Secretaries in Asaba stressing that no society that has diversified its economy has achieved growth and development without a strong and dedicated public service, calling on the State civil service to show more commitment and dedication to duty as they hold the key to the success of developmental programmes especially the “Delta Beyond Oil” initiative.
He said Government was concentrating on agriculture, tourism, solid minerals and infrastructure to develop the economy and build a state without oil, noting that this could only be achieved with a strong civil service.
While stating that the new Permanent Secretaries were appointed on merit, Governor Uduaghan commended them for their contribution to the growth of the State, appealing to them to be dedicated, committed, transparent and God-fearing in the discharge of their present duties.
Governor Uduaghan who specially commended one of the new permanent secretary, Dame Edith Okowa, Wife of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for her dedication to duties despite her husband’s position, called on all especially teachers to emulate her simplicity and commitment.
He called on Commissioners to maintain a cordial working relationship with their Permanent Secretaries through the exchange of knowledge and ideas so as to avoid friction and conflicts, explaining that they needed to learn from one another to move the State forward as no man was an lsland.
While noting that appointment as permanent secretary in the state was not a retiring gift, the Governor explained that the position which is both a career progression and political appointment was meant for civil servants who had excelled in their performance in the course of their service.
Responding, Mr. Nduka Okonkwo who spoke on behalf of his colleagues expressed appreciation to the Governor for the appointment and pledged their loyalty and commitment to duty.
The new Permanent Secretaries include Messrs. Mbadiwe Nduka Okonkwo; Ike George Oduah; Julie Ebele Akinmmoyewa; Augustine Obukowho Ekeke; Solomon Ashe Sajere;Chuma Osita Okediadi; Dave Ashe Onokpe; Augustina Omamoke Onokpise; Jerome Chukwuyem Morka; Edwin Eruvweno Abraka; Jude Igwebuike Aguonye; Cornelius Akpojotu Ssemiteje and Constance Otasowie Nwani for the Civil Service.
Others are Messrs. Florence Ejiroghene Ofovwe; Victoria Nkemakonam Monu; Florence Onoriode Okonrenkporo; Akwuadika Celestine Okolie; Josephine Erue Ogbodu; Okiemute Elizabeth Okeregbe; Hannah Asarariebe Omeru; Felix Meshu Ambakederemo; William Prebi Orutu; Edith Okowa and Arthur Oritseje Ikolo for Post-Primary Education Board, with Dr. Enaduhobor Sunday Otobo from the Hospital Management Board.
