The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly condemned the fuel scarcity experienced in parts of the country.
In a statement by the Senate President, Comrade Akinteye Afeez, NANS expressed concern over the fuel shortage, describing it as unacceptable given the country’s economic situation.
NANS questioned why fuel supply has deteriorated under the watch of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).

The student body highlighted the roles of President Bola Tinubu, who oversees the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, in managing petroleum resources and activities in Nigeria.
The statement emphasized the severe consequences of the fuel crisis, including unreliable electricity supply, soaring prices, and paralyzed essential services.
NANS demanded immediate action from NNPCL to resolve the crisis and restore stability to the nation.
The association called for transparency and accountability in providing information about the state of fuel supply and distribution.
It also urged NNPCL to improve infrastructure and logistics for efficient fuel distribution, and to address bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the supply chain promptly.
Furthermore, NANS called for NNPCL to engage with stakeholders, including student representatives, to collaborate on solutions to the crisis.
If Mele Kyari fails to take decisive action, NANS demanded his resignation or removal from office.
The statement warned of mass action by Nigerian students if NNPCL fails to address the crisis promptly, emphasizing the need for effective leadership to prioritize the well-being of the Nigerian people.
