Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has expressed confidence that he, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, and other relevant stakeholders can resolve the party’s leadership crisis.
Obi stated that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), along with himself and Otti, will meet in accordance with the LP’s constitution to address the leadership issues.
He also mentioned that the decision to retain LP’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, would be made collectively by the stakeholders.

Obi made these remarks while addressing reporters after meeting with the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Transition Committee, headed by former NLC President Abdulwaheed Omar.
The NLC Transition Committee had attempted to take over the Labour Party secretariat but was denied access, as Obi and other stakeholders were already holding a peace meeting there.
“The leadership challenge in the Labour Party can be resolved by the stakeholders,” Obi said. “When we come together as a family, we will make decisions as a family.
The party has a constitution and a National Executive Council, and everyone, including myself and Governor Otti, will be there to decide.
“We cannot say someone is at the gate and tell your wife to leave; everyone must be present before dissolving a marriage.
The protest is good because it shows that everyone wants us to organize ourselves better.
They are part of the family, and in a family, people agitate and misunderstandings are part of the living process.”
Obi’s comments reflect a hopeful and collaborative approach to resolving the internal conflicts within the Labour Party.
