The Zamfara State Police Command has reported significant improvements in the security situation across parts of Zamfara State, with displaced residents gradually returning to their communities.
The command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, disclosed that the progress is a result of sustained security operations and collaboration between the state government and the judiciary, which ensured the prompt prosecution of suspected bandits and their informants.
According to him, the police also adopted a strategy of engaging community leaders before deploying mobile police personnel to previously deserted areas, encouraging displaced residents to return and rebuild their lives.

Abubakar cited the Zebri community in Maradu Local Government Area, near Shinkafi, as one of the affected areas where nearly 10,000 residents who fled due to insecurity have now returned.
He also mentioned Peggen Mahi community, where over 10,000 residents displaced in 2025 have resettled following the deployment of anti-kidnapping units supported with Armoured Personnel Carriers provided by the Force Headquarters.
The spokesperson further noted a marked reduction in kidnapping incidents, particularly along major highways in the state.
“Prior to May 2023, the command recorded over 10 kidnapping incidents monthly along routes such as the Tsafe axis. Currently, such cases have become rare,” he said.
Abubakar commended the Zamfara State judiciary for accelerating the trial of suspects, noting that the development has helped restore public confidence and strengthen security efforts across the state.
